The programme in Pool I started with the Netherlands coming back from two sets down to complete a momentous comeback and secure a 3-2 victory in their matchup with outsiders Estonia. Even though many expected a very close match, Italy looked just dominant in their matchup with Bulgaria, cruising to a landslide 3-0 victory to end the winning streak of the young Lionesses after three rounds. Croatia, who earlier in the competition had claimed a sensational triumph over Italy, left no chance to co-hosts Serbia by powering to a 3-0 win to keep first place in the pool with a perfect record of four victories in as many matches. Later in the evening, Poland left no chance to Georgia to improve their win-loss record to 2-2.
In Pool II, Slovenia and Greece recorded their fourth victory in as many matches and they did so in emphatic style. Slovenia opened the day’s programme with a 3-1 score in their fixture with Belgium before late in the evening, Greece made easy work of France – with the only exception of the third set. Türkiye easily routed Germany 3-0 before hosts Hungary failed to complete their comeback from a 0-2 deficit to lose to their neighbours from Romania at the tiebreak.
The competition continues Sunday with the next round of pool matches. The top two teams in each group will progress to the semis and remain in contention for the medals.
