In Pool I, Croatia extended their winning streak to five matches in a row, whereas Italy cemented their second place in the group – which would allow them to reach the semis. Croatia and Bulgaria delivered a great match, which lasted for five sets, and the young Croatians managed to have the upper hand in the tiebreak to stay undefeated in the competition. As expected, but with some difficulty, the Netherlands managed to defeat a very stubborn Georgia 3-0. After suffering two straight defeats, co-hosts Serbia finally managed to take maximum three points, as they came back from one set down to edge Poland 3-1. In the last game of the fifth competition day in Vrnjačka Banja, Italy beat Estonia in straight sets without any major problems to stay in contention for a spot in the semis.
In Pool II in Békéscsaba, Türkiye ended Slovenia’s winning streak by cruising to an emphatic 3-0 victory in the last match of the day. This means that following their 3-2 success in the matchup with hosts Hungary, Greece remains the only team with a perfect record in the group. Elsewhere, Germany celebrated their second victory as Leana Grozer scored as many as 33 points in a 3-1 shutout of Romania. The young Yellow Tigers of Belgium beat France 3-0 to claim their first victory.
After a day off, the competition will resume on Tuesday before pool play ends on Wednesday.
